What is Schema Coaching?
Most coaching stays at the surface - offering motivation, strategies, and mindset shifts. The modern industry traces its foundations back to California pioneer Thomas Leonard who promoted action, clarity and momentum, and rejected therapy or revisiting the past. Coaching has since evolved to promote the notion of success as entirely about the accumulation of material wealth. But while this toxic positivity approach may work for a few clients it fails to explore the nuance of deep emotional patterns of behavior and self-sabotaging schemas. As a result, clients stay stuck, cycling through the same frustrations.
Schema Coaching aims to rescue and reframe the ‘cowboy’ reputation of coaching by adding complimentary elements of Schema Theory. This means adopting a more holistic and incremental approach based on scientific evidence of what we know helps people move forward with their lives.
